Embracing the Science of Beauty: The Clinically-Proven Efficacy of HIFU Treatments

Updated: Jun 9, 2023

"Does it really work?", I get asked all the time. It's not a surprising question, considering HIFU is relatively new to the beauty and aesthetics scene, but the answer is simple - Yes!

In this post, I’d like to discuss the science behind our High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) treatments. We live in an era where information is at our fingertips and it's crucial for us to make informed decisions about our health and beauty. So, let's delve into why HIFU treatments are not just safe, but also clinically proven to work.

Clinical Evidence

Numerous scientific studies and clinical trials have been conducted on this innovative technology. One comprehensive study conducted by researchers Ko et al. (2017) published in the journal Skin Research and Technology found that HIFU treatments led to significant improvements in skin laxity, with a high safety profile and minimal discomfort for patients.

This study is just one of many. Other clinical trials and independent research studies have demonstrated similar results. For instance, a study by Alster and Tanzi (2012) in the Journal of Drugs in Dermatology has shown that HIFU treatments can lead to improvements in skin elasticity and collagen production2, thus helping to combat signs of ageing and promote a healthier, more youthful appearance.

The effectiveness of HIFU treatments boils down to the technology's ability to deliver focused ultrasound energy to the deeper layers of the skin, which encourages the production of new collagen - a process known as neocollagenesis. This leads to the gradual tightening and lifting of the skin over time.

Feeling curious and a little nerdy? Check out these publications that support the efficacy of HIFU treatments:

Still not convinced? It's ok to be cautious about these things. Book in for a no-obligation discussion with me and we can step through all your concerns and questions.

Just one caution...

HIFU works and is safe - but variation in skin type, age and other factors means you must be assessed and treated by an experienced clinician. As a dermal intervention professional with 16+ yrs in medical ultrasound, I always suggest you're better off paying a little more and aim for quality than save some money and not get the best outcomes.
